History
CLE is the most intensive and extensive learning assistance program available.
The idea of College Living Experience came from Irene Spalter, Ed. D. in 1988. She was facilitating a social-skills group in a residential program for young adults with borderline cognitive abilities. At the same time, a friend was having trouble finding the right resources to help her son with learning issues complete college and transition to independent living.
The residential model used for the social-skills group proved to be effective for college students who needed help finishing college and becoming independent adults.
Since 1989, we’ve dedicated ourselves to providing special-needs students with the comprehensive assistance they need. Our current population includes students with low average to gifted IQs with diagnoses such as ADD, LD, NLD and autistic spectrum disorders like Asperger’s Syndrome and high-functioning autism.
Over the course of the program, our content has changed, our parameters have shifted, and the population we serve has expanded, but our mission remains the same.
