College Living Experience Tuition & Expenses
August 2007 – July 2008
The College Living Experience is a year round program and accepts students on an open enrollment basis. The CLE contract and the apartment lease are both signed for a full year. All independent living skills and social skills programming is also conducted year round and there are many academic, work-related, or travel opportunities offered during the summer months. Tuition is paid for one calendar year based on the date of the student’s enrollment.
CLE Tuition – $35,000
Tuition includes all services rendered by the College Living Experience on an unlimited basis. These include all academic tutoring as well as independent living skills and social skills support and programming. There is also a one-time registration fee of $1,500.
Academic Tuition
Student’s tuition to college, university, or technical school varies depending upon the institution attending and the number of credits attempted each semester. CLE will register the students for classes but the costs are paid by the family directly to the appropriate college.
Cost of Living Expenses
Upon admission to The College Living Experience, CLE staff will assist families in formulating an estimated monthly budget. This agreed upon amount will be deposited on a monthly basis by the family into a local checking account. From there, CLE will assist the student in maintaining the checking account, budgeting, and paying all bills as a part of the independent living skill program. The monthly budget includes rent, bills, food, and recreation and where a student’s budget falls withing the given range is a result of personal family decisions.
A tax deduction for medical expenses for the tuition paid to College Living Experience may be available. In accordance with IRS Regulations, a medical deduction is allowed for tuition costs when a school meets the definition of a “special school”. The school’s curriculum must include programs designed to prepare individuals with professionally diagnosed learning difficulties for future normal education and/or living. For many of our participants, College Living Experience will meet this definition as its primary goal is to assist students in earning a degree in college and with developing skills necessary for living independently in the community. Tax advisors should be consulted regarding the availability of this deduction.
