Social Schedule
College Living Experience is available in 6 great locations.
We facilitate weekly social events Monday through Saturday to which all of our students are invited. No student is required to attend these activities, but those students whose abilities to initiate and carry out social plans are still emerging are strongly encouraged to attend. In addition to scheduled weekly activities, special events are planned throughout the year at the request and with the assistance of our students.
We fervently support our students’ interests in on-campus activities and opportunities in the greater community. Faculty assist students in finding and joining clubs, sports teams, theater groups, religious organizations, volunteer opportunities, or any other social outlet they wish to pursue.
Our current weekly social activities include, but are not limited to:
CONCERTS / MUSICALS / THEATER
Denver offers a plethora of venues, some within walking distance, some renowned worldwide, for music and theatre. One of our favorites is the Denver Center for Performing Arts just down the street from our center and the apartments. The students like to take advantage of these opportunities as much as possible, while spending time with mentors and ILS Staff.
DINE AROUND
Mentors and Independent Living Skills (ILS) Staff provide guidance to a positive dining experience. Students choose from a wide array of international cuisines in the campus, Santa Fe Art area, and the 16th Street Mall.
FILM ON THE ROCKS / MOVIES AT THE PARK
Red Rocks Amphitheatre offers a series of concerts and movies in the hotter months. Other venues offer similar events, most of which are free. Students and staff love to take some time to hang out with each other while listening to some good bands and enjoying movies…all in the great outdoors!
MAGIC CLUB – Thursdays
Students gather at one of their apartments to spend hours playing Magic together.
MOUNTAIN BIKING & HIKING
Colorado is well known for the beautiful scenery. This is a wonderful opportunity for students and staff to experience the outdoors together as the weather allows.
POKER NIGHT
Students gather at one of their apartments to spend hours laughing, talking and playing poker.
RISK GAME NIGHT – Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m.
Students gather at one of their apartments to spend hours trying to strategically demolish each other’s countries and take over the world!
SIX FLAGS ELITCH GARDENS AMUSEMENT PARK
The students love being able to walk to Elitch’s in the beautiful Colorado weather and have fun enjoying the many roller coasters or cooling off in the water park.
SKIING & SNOWBOARDING
As the weather changes, we are all excited about heading up the mountains together on weekends to ski and snowboard! We are facilitating purchasing passes for our students, getting lessons as needed, and having a great time whether you ski, snowboard or just want to head up to the hills for tubing or ice skating!
SPORTING EVENTS
One of the great things about being in an urban environment is having access to those sporting events you love: football, basketball, ice hockey, soccer, baseball, lacrosse, arena football and more! Most of these events are within walking distance to our center and provide sporting entertainment year-round!
VIDEO GAME TOURNAMENTS
Many of our students enjoy video games and often play at home alone or with their apartment mates. We try to bring everyone together monthly to test their gaming skills in a social setting.
WASHINGTON PARK
Staff and students travel weekly to a beautiful local park that is safe, surrounded by beautiful homes and includes a lake where ducks and geese hang out. Wash Park to play soccer, walk the perimeter, jog, bike, or just hang out in the beautiful surroundings and read a book or nap.
WORK OUT GROUP – Saturdays at 8:00 a.m.
Our Resident Advisor works out every Saturday morning in the fabulous Parkway Apartment Fitness Center, offering advice and instruction to those students who want to get into shape. Students are also encouraged to work out independently any day of the week and take advantage of the free classes offered there and on campus.
